Selection and application of glass edge polishing abrasives
I. preface
the economic and technical indicators of glass polishing processing are characterized by the consumption of polishing abrasives or the service life of polishing abrasives. Although the nature of glass edging machine, grinding and polishing method, cooling method, speed, the internal quality of glass itself and the technical level of operators will also affect the brightness and polishing suburb of glass polishing, the fundamental thing is to choose the appropriate polishing abrasive tools, so how to correctly choose and use the glass edge polishing abrasive tools is a very important problem
the following factors should be considered in the selection and use of glass edge polishing grinding tools:
(1) types of glass edge grinding machines:
(2) diamond grinding wheels used for rough and fine grinding of glass edges:
(3) requirements for the brightness of glass edges:
(4) grinding and polishing specifications, etc
II. Types of glass edge polishing abrasives
there are many types of glass edge polishing abrasives. Due to the different manufacturers of glass edging machines, the specifications and performance of the polishing abrasives used are also different. At present, there is no unified code and mark for glass edge polishing abrasives in China, and there is no specific product standard in the abrasive industry. Therefore, it is customary to select and use glass edge polishing abrasives originally imported from abroad. At the same time, domestic manufacturers of glass edge polishing abrasives have also designated their own product codes and names according to the characteristics of their own binders. Therefore, this paper classifies according to the current common use in China:
(1) 10s series polishing abrasives
(2) 9R series polishing abrasives
(3) BD series polishing abrasives
(4) BK series polishing abrasives
(5) polishing abrasives for glass turning machines
(6) cerium oxide polishing abrasives
(7) wool felt polishing abrasives
III. selection of glass edge polishing abrasives
the selection of glass edge polishing abrasives should be based on the type of glass edging machine used, processing method and processing requirements. The following is about the types of several commonly used glass edging machines. Recommended reason: it meets all the standards of waterproof coiled materials
(1) linear edging machine
generally adopt 10s series or 9R series polishing abrasives (see Figure 1). 10s series polishing abrasives have better elasticity and polishing performance than 9R series polishing abrasives. Therefore, most domestic glass deep processing manufacturers are using 10s series polishing abrasives. There are two types of 10s series polishing abrasives and 9R series polishing abrasives, one is the bottom edge polishing wheel for polishing the bottom edge of glass, and the other is the chamfer polishing wheel for polishing the chamfer of glass. Because the hardness of 9R series polishing abrasives is harder than 10s series polishing abrasives, it has the characteristics of strong grinding force, high grinding efficiency and long service life. For some furniture glass and craft glass processing, high brightness is required, and cerium oxide polishing abrasives are often used. Their common specifications are shown in Table 1
(2) linear beveling machine
generally adopt 10s series polishing abrasives and wool felt polishing abrasives. The commonly used 10s series polishing abrasives are the specifications of the bottom edge wheel. See Table 1 for details. Wool felt polishing abrasives should be used with cerium oxide polishing powder (see Figure 2)
see Table 2 for specific specifications
(3) single arm special-shaped edging machine
when polishing the straight edge, round edge, duck mouth edge and wavy edge of glass, BD series polishing abrasives and BK series polishing abrasives are generally used (see Figure 3). Their common specifications are shown in Table 3. Generally, the thickness of the appropriate polishing abrasive is selected according to the thickness of the glass to be polished. When polishing special-shaped beveled edges of glass, 10s series polishing abrasives and wool felt polishing abrasives are generally used. Wool felt polishing abrasives should also be used with ceria polishing powder. Their selection method is the same as that of linear beveling machine
(4) linear rounding machine
usually adopts BK series polishing abrasives and BD series polishing abrasives. See Table 4 for specific specifications
(5) glass engraving machine
usually uses special polishing grinding tools for glass engraving machine (see Figure 4) Its specifications can be divided into two and according to the type of machine, as shown in Table 5
(6) other edging machines and special edging machines
in addition to the above glass edging machines, there are some edging machines with simple structure and single purpose, such as chamfering machine, small wafer machine, portable edging machine, etc. In addition, there are some special edging machines, such as straight-line bilateral edging machines and wash basin edging machines. Profiling edging machine, etc. The types of polishing abrasives they use are generally similar to the above-mentioned polishing abrasives for edging machines, but there are differences in specifications. When selecting, the corresponding polishing tools and specifications should be selected according to the shape, characteristics, brightness and the type of edging machine of the glass edge to be processed
IV. use of glass edge polishing abrasives
correct and reasonable use of glass edge polishing abrasives can not only achieve satisfactory brightness, but also improve polishing efficiency and service life of polishing abrasives. Next, according to the characteristics of several main glass edge polishing abrasives introduced, their respective use methods are explained
(1) 10s series polishing abrasives
are made by mixing high elastic and high-strength rubber and plastic materials with sharp alumina, silicon carbide and cerium oxide. It is also called "tipping wheel". Because its working surface is relatively soft when encountering cooling water during use, the abrasive and cerium oxide on the working surface are in a high grinding and polishing state. Therefore, it has excellent elasticity, wear resistance and polishing efficiency. Excellent elasticity and wear resistance have the following advantages: it can fully contact the periphery of the glass, and there will be no defects around the glass after fine grinding and polishing; Provide space for removing wear debris, reduce pressure and reduce the risk of burns; Make it easier to polish the periphery of the glass. There are two types of bottom wheels in 10s series polishing abrasives: 10s - 40 and 10s - 60. The former has strong grinding force and high polishing efficiency; The latter has good polishing effect and relatively weak grinding force. Typical glass edge processing technology: Diamond rough grinding wheel - diamond fine grinding wheel - 10s series polishing grinding tools
one model of 10s series polishing abrasives can be selected according to the specific requirements of glass edge processing, and whether to use cerium oxide polishing abrasives can also be determined according to the polishing requirements of glass edge
(2) 9R series polishing abrasives
are made by mixing high elastic and high-strength rubber and plastic materials with sharp alumina and silicon carbide. Because the hardness of 9R series polishing abrasives is harder than 10s series polishing abrasives, it has the characteristics of strong grinding force, high grinding efficiency and long service life. Its polishing ability is weaker than that of 10s series polishing abrasives. Therefore, it has the characteristics of strong grinding force, high grinding efficiency and long service life. Its polishing ability is weaker than 10s series polishing abrasives
typical glass edge processing technology: Diamond rough grinding wheel - diamond fine grinding wheel - 9R series polishing grinding tools
(3) BD series polishing abrasives
are made by mixing special polymer materials with sharp alumina and silicon carbide. The polishing wheel made by this process has the following advantages: loose structure, good elasticity and wear resistance; Provide space for removing debris; Reduce pressure and reduce the risk of burns; Make the periphery of the glass polished easier and brighter; The shape shall be durable, and it will not cause edge collapse and fracture due to the irregularity of the glass, the vibration of the machine or the error of the operator. Moreover, due to the small particle size of the abrasive, its polishing effect is very good. BD series polishing abrasives with different specifications and sizes can be selected according to the type of glass edging machine
typical glass edge processing technology: Diamond rough grinding wheel - diamond fine grinding wheel - BD series polishing grinding tools
(4) BK series polishing abrasives
are made by mixing high elastic and high-strength rubber and plastic materials with sharp alumina diamond rough grinding wheel diamond fine grinding wheel 9R series polishing abrasives and silicon carbide. It has excellent elasticity, wear resistance and polishing efficiency. Excellent elasticity and wear resistance have the following advantages: it can fully contact the periphery of various shapes of glass (such as arc edge, duckbill edge, wavy edge, etc.), and there will be no defects around the glass after fine grinding and polishing; Reduce pressure and reduce the risk of burns; Make it easier to polish the periphery of the glass; The shape will remain durable, and will not collapse or break due to the uneven glass, the vibration of the machine or the error of the operator in life
BK40、BK60、BK80、BK120、BK150、BK180。

one or more models of BK series polishing abrasives can be selected according to the specific requirements of glass edge processing, and whether to use BD polishing abrasives can also be determined according to the polishing requirements of glass edge
(5) polishing abrasives for glass turning machines
are made by mixing special polymer materials with sharp alumina and silicon carbide. After the error signal is amplified by the servo amplifier, the polishing wheel made by this process has the following advantages: loose structure, good elasticity and wear resistance: it provides space for removing wear debris; Reduce pressure and reduce the risk of burns; Make the engraved pattern brighter; The shape is durable, achieving a smooth and neat effect. Due to the small particle size of the abrasive, the polishing effect is ideal
typical processing technology: Diamond rough grinding wheel - diamond resin wheel - polishing grinding tool for turning machine
(6) cerium oxide polishing abrasives
are made by mixing special high elastic rubber and plastic materials with cerium oxide with excellent polishing performance, so it has excellent elasticity and polishing efficiency, and improves the brightness of the glass edge, which is very popular with domestic manufacturers. At present, ceria polishing abrasives produced abroad are mainly used in China, including x-3000 and x-5000 models produced in some countries, and ox-081 and ox-bright-001 models produced in Italy. The x-3000g is generally used on the 8 grinding head straight edge machine, making the working speed very high. S-5000, ox-0810 and ox-bright-001 are often used on the straight edge machine with 9 grinding heads because of their extremely low speed of use. These products have excellent price performance ratio. Typical processing technology: rough diamond grinding wheel - fine diamond grinding wheel - 10s series polishing abrasives - cerium oxide polishing abrasives
(7) wool felt polishing abrasives
a small amount of felt is mixed with chemical fiber materials. The polishing efficiency of felt is high. When it is mixed with fiber materials, it not only maintains a high polishing efficiency, but also extends its service life. Wool felt polishing abrasives are made by spirally winding layers of felt. The softness of the felt and the adhesive used determine the polishing effect and service life of wool felt polishing abrasives. During installation, the arrow direction shown on the abrasive tool should be consistent with the rotation direction of the motor, and it should always be used with cerium oxide polishing powder during use
